Fantasy News

Starts second half Thursday

With Damian Lillard (abdomen) sitting out his second straight game, Smith was included in the rotation once again as the backup for fill-in starting point guard Anfernee Simons. With Simons exiting in the second quarter with a sprained ankle and not returning, Smith joined the top unit to the begin the second half. As has been a familiar occurrence since he entered the league as a lottery pick in 2017, Smith was abysmal as a shooter, but he at least put up some decent per-minute counting stats. Lillard is already expected to miss at least a few more games, and if Simons is also sidelined for a period of time, Smith could make for an intriguing pickup in deeper leagues for fantasy managers looking for aid in the steals and assists categories in particular.

Quiet in lopsided loss

Nurkic's 23 minutes were his fewest in seven games and largely a product of the blowout nature of the contest. He still managed to hit double-digit scoring for the fifth straight game, and he added seven boards to produce at least moderate fantasy value. Nurkic is averaging a double-double (12.4 points, 10.6 boards) on the campaign, though he is also posting less than one block per contest for the first time in his career.

Swats three shots in loss

McCollum's three swats -- which tied a season high -- were a nice surprise, but fantasy managers who roster the guard were likely hoping for more than 16 points considering his increased opportunities in Daman Lillard's (abdomen) absence. McCollum has scored more than 20 points just once over his past five games, and he'll likely need to increase that number to help keep the Blazers afloat while their superstar point guard remains out of action.
